The sound is a little better than my sennheiser hs590. I like the closed backs for music with lots of bass. Not so keen on the cable, prone to twisting. The build quality is excellent. Very pleased.

I've used many higher end headsets in the past north of £1000 and i must saw this may well be one of the most engaging headphones i've tried for only £410.Yes that sounds a lot but what you get is a rich and detailed presentation of your music,with plenty of micro details, musicality and most important emotion.Best part is these perform with even a simple smartphone DAC.Amazing cans.Recommend if you are on the fence.

I bought these hoping they would be on par with the AHD2000's but unfortunately not.They are lovely to look at with the zebra wood cups and are fairly comfortable but I wasn't blown away.I've always loved Denon's and even rate the D600 model for the amazing price Amazon sold them for previously, but I felt like if I kept this model it would be for the looks alone and not the soundstage.Mids and the stereo spread were two things lacking for me personally.Unfortunate as there are some strong points here from Denon again, just not enough to justify the price.

I ordered the D5200 last week when their price dropped temporarily to a tempting point, although the original intention was to get the D7200: at 2x the price, I decided to get the sister model.
It has been a surprise that I ended up liking them so much. Thus far my favourite closed back model was the LCD-2CB and these sound very similar, are easier to power and, most importantly, do not weight over 600g like the Audeze. These are comfortable although I personally would have preferred a lighter headband rather than the leather and metal combination found on this model: it does look very good but in my view it weighs more than it should.
I am not someone who cares about packaging or accessories, so I won't go there.
The sound of this headphone is something I'd describe as "Focal Clear meets Beyerdynamic DT770", to mention models I own and know very well. It has a very high level of clarity, which I found quite surprising based on the reviews of the older sister D7200 with whom I believe shares the same drivers, matched by powerful and impactful bass that is not omnipresent and invasive, at least for my taste. If you think the bass of an HD600 is just enough, I suspect you will find the bass of the D5200 too much. Vocals are very well reproduced, at least the one I like which tend to stay not higher than altos: for example Melody Gardot or Diana Krall sound great on this, and so does Bocelli.
Overall the sound is very engaging, more than I expected by this brand, and that is the area where, along with the clarity, they make me think to my Focal Clear.
I have not listened the D7200 so, unfortunately, I cannot offer a comparison. However the frequently reported criticism of the recessed high register of the D7200 seems to have no place for the D5200: I suppose Denon heard the criticism and successfully fixed this aspect. I am not able to say if elsewhere the strenghts of the D7200 were lost of washed-up. Honestly, I am very happy with these and they do not leave me wanting in any area, hence I will just settle with these and let others report on D7200, which I am not convinced is better just because it costs more,and D9200 which is likely better but way too expensive to justify and hard to find used.
If these are out of your budget, consider the much cheaper AKG K371: less soundstage, not that good with strings and orchestral work but overall really a great buy.

I'm really impressed with these headphones. I listen to a lot of EDM and the bass is clean and powerful but not overwhelming and even goes into sub territory! The overall sound is warm relaxed rather than clinical/reference and and a huge step up from my £250 NAD closed back headphones. I find them comfortable to wear if a little warm after a while but the sound quality is so good you just want to listen to more music of all types. They don't isolate you too much from external sounds and are more suited for home listening.

The audio is phenomenal! Very rich and clean bass and I can hear every detail. I usually listen to R&B, House, African and sometimes classical music. The sound signature is very natural. I believe these headphones are highly underrated.I literally went out today and compared the sound quality of these headphones toSennheiser's new Momentum 3.0,Bose Headphones 700, and Bowers and Wilkins PX7...Denon's D5200, in my opinion, outperformed. I allowed the sales representatives to have a listen,At one point, it looked like they were hearing voices... The only downside to these headphones is the headband (just looks weird on my bold head lol) . Noise isolation isn't the best however, I do use the product with a portable DAC so it's understandable. The product can be used externally but you will need a shorter cable.

I have been using an Asus Sonar soundcard and a pair of Audio Technica ath-m50 headphones on my PC.They sounded quite good but I wanted to upgrade to something better, and besides as you will see on a few reviews of those particular cans, the headband and cups wear out rather quickly and look terrible after a while.
After a bitof research, I removed my PC soundcard and got the Audiolab M-DAC Mini (connected directly to the PC via USB).The sound quality definitely improved a lot, but the sound was quite flat and a bit muddy at the high end (something I have always had a problem with those cans).
So I did some more research and bought a pair of Denon AHD5200EM Headphones.They are excellent build quality, great materials, feel pretty comfortable (I wear glasses so comfort is sometimes a problem with over ear cans).The sounds is excellent, but they are not reference headphones, they will colour the bass and treble somewhat, but that’s exactly what I wanted to bring the most out of the Audiolab M-DAC Mini which gives an excellent but somewhat flat sound.It’s a perfect pairing.
I use them for Music, Gaming, Movies and TV and they never disappoint.I am currently listening to Allegaeon’s Apoptosis album on them (for those not familiar with this it’s fast and technical death metal that requires a particular balanced but tight sound otherwise it will sound like mush) and the pairing copes with ease.
Mission accomplished I am really happy with my purchases.
